Sony to cut 10,000 jobs

Wow, I guess people were right when they said Sony is "hungry". I'm assuming Sony will now stop being complacent and start really delivering products that video markers want. Really innovate. For example, I wonder if the fs700 will be what it's hyped up to be. In a way, the job cuts are a nice wakeup call for Sony. Exciting times for sure. On the other hand, since they are in the red, they could just try to jack up prices some more and increase margins. I think we don't really know for sure what's sony's strategy will be until the end of this year.

NOW if a certain DSLR company would get a wakeup call, perhaps they can start innovating the the video dslr field also. Since their most important dslr isn't flying off the selves, I say give this company (which starts with a "C") a year, or perhaps 1.5 years, and they too will learn a lesson. Muuaahhahahahah!! :-)

Their pro-video camera sales are nothing compared to their consumer sales. I would not ever blame any of the large corporations financial issues from their niche market divisions, unless said division was a complete money pit of worthless product, which none of the big camera makers are, imo.

This is like blaming kodak motion picture film stocks for the failure of Kodak. Not so. Blame the consumer divisions for point and shoots and the printer divisions. Not really the fault of Kodak Vision film stocks. :/

Canon is not a DSLR company. Its entire consumer BU represented about 40% of all sales (in 2010). The entire business unit. That's printers, ink, paper, lenses, camcorders, point-and-shoots, scanners, DSLRs, etc.

Yep... If Sony wants to sell lots of fancy 3D TVs... they should consider the issues that good 3D content is very rare.

One contributing factor for that is because 3D filming setups are expensive and too heavy.

So yeah, again... where's the genlock on the FS100 and FS700?!

More than this. I just finished posting elsewhere that based on the figures I just got from Gartner, my predictions seem prescient. Theater going is falling precipitously and other than Sports (as in 'Sports Bars') and News, TV watching is on a similar decline. These trends are partly countered by rising PC (particularly tablet) usage.
What I said in the other thread was that 1080p/2K to tablet is the mantra for the next 5 years at least.
I'm still holding out hope for HUD eyewear HD displays and of course... "The Feelies"
