Sony reveals 1st NXCAM camcorder: HXR-NX5U

I do find humor in the notion that overexposing an entire frame is somehow inherently superior to overexposing a portion of a frame, but certainly respect those who (for whatever reason) intensely dislike banded overexposure in just a portion of a frame when there is a flash of light from a still camera (or whatever), and indeed encourage those folks to get CCD cams as well.
If having a half-exposed frame does not bug you, then this is not a problem for you. In related news, I've read that AVCCAM cameras usually have only one broken frame, unlike HDV cameras that can have multiple broken frames, up to seven. So, with just one half-frame, flashband fix should do fine. Does the HMC40 have flashband fix built-in?

As far as I know, Panasonic doesn't offer a way to "fix" a flashband, but I've never really given it a first thought, much less a second thought. It just simply isn't an issue that bugs me even a little bit, although I do understand it is of considerable concern to others.

AVCCAM appears to employ a notably stronger codec, particularly for coping with massive changes between images in a GOP, which should considerably minimize the effect of a flash spilling over across multiple frames when compared to encoding the same thing using HDV or even probably XDCAM EX encoding.

I don't think the 40 has the flashband fix like the HPX300 has. Hopefully they can add it in in a firmware update.

BTW, recently I watched a Panama episode of No Reservations, which featured a shot of airplane propeller (actually, two shots) with characteristically skewed blades. This could easily cut it out as it did not add much to the content, but I think they kept it just as an inside joke. I did not notice any objectionable skew or jello in the rest of the 40-minute segment.
