Anyone tried this one yet? How does compare to the M audio microtrack? Does it have the same annoying built in battery with a short life? Is this a pro grade recorder. What else should i be looking at in the same price category?

Your help appreciated!!

Nice unit... depending on what you want to use it for...

It's an overpriced Zoom H4 with a SONY logo. Forget about the pretty pictures with it in the same room as a piano. The M-Audio device is weird. Look at Nargra/Edirol etc..

Hi thank for your feedback, so you saying the zoom is not as good? Seems like the Nagra is allot more expensive and the edirol has no real inputs. I already own a microtrack (version 1), but the internal battery is a real pain and I am always worrying that it will run out on me, but it is cheep although you are right the whole interface is just plain annoying. Is the zoom on par with microtrack in terms of sound quality?

I have a mixpre but am looking for a replacement for the microtrack version one, mainly because of the short battery life. In the same price range 200-300$ is the zoom the way to go?

I bought the Marantz 661 from them and its working well. Over your price preference but they also have the 620 for less money.

I obtained an M10 recently - very solid little recorder with an excellent display and well-thought-out ergonomics - has the look and feel of something fully professional. The mic preamp measures well, and the internal mics have a full sound and are low noise. Headphone amp drives my cans well. I shall use it with a Rode Stereo Video Mic on the GH1, the recorder in my pocket on a short extension lead, and the supplied wired remote stuck (with blutack) to the back of the camera for ease of keeping audio and video rolling more or less together. Level setting is no too critical with 24 bits and a limiter.

As the battery life is of the order of 20+ hours, you can just leave it turned on ready for action all day.

Obviously it's not for you if you are using phantom powered mics however.
