Sony/Panasonic DVs both used on my DVX

I bought a camera (DVX100B) from a guy and he just told me he used both Panasonic tapes and Sony tapes...

Am I going to need to clean it? Is one a wet system and one a dry system or are they both the same?

It depends on the number of hours overall that the camera has. Cleaning tape should be avoided except in emergency. I would send the camera for a check up and cleaning from an authorized Panasonic Dealer, such as, Specialized Communications in Maryland(they are members of DVXUSER Group. Sony tape is considered to be wet and Panasonic dry. Use the highest grade tape (dry) you can consistently afford and use the the same type all the time, do not use tape longer the 60 minutes. Keep the camera in a non dusty environment and use you lens cap. Do not leave tape in the camera when it is not in use. Good Luck.

Is there a link on the site to Specialized Communications? I'll google it for sure but I see that some sites offer a 10% discount if you are referred by DVXuser.com..

Do a search in the DVXUSER Group, Andrew Hoffman is the Technical Director with Specialized Communications.
