Sony MDR-V6 Deal on Amazon - 50 bucks

Has anyone ever identified a significant difference between MDR-V6 and MDR-7506?
I have several pair of both and the only difference I can discern is the nameplate and the gold flash on the plug.

Aside from the naming, the only difference I can detect is the color of the connector. as well. Gold on the 7506; Silver on the V6. To my old ears, there's no audible difference.. (though some 'self-proclaimed' golden ears state they can hear the slver/gold difference. on XLRs). The replacement parts list is mostly identical as well. The first V6 set I had actually lasted longer than two sets of 7506, all of which were subjected the same kinds of international field prod and travel hell, climatic extremes, poverty and civil unrest locations. (Homey don't don't play that no mo')

As they are basically the same thing, would it be better to purchase these over the more expensive 7506? Or is the extra cost worth the recognition? I wouldn't think so, but what about all of you?

While I had planned on getting these or the 7506 later (money is tight), the deal was too good to pass, so I just purchased a pair! Oh, and I looked at other pictures and it seems to be red. At least I hope so. I also saw pictures of a black-sided version.

The Amazon page said it would take a month or two to deliver the items, which is annoying, but not too much of an inconvenience as my Shure SE215 pair works fine.

I have seen both used by people working on big budget films. I don't think anybody can really tell the difference.

"One thing I do see different between the two is the color and wording on the label on the sides"
> On both the V6 and 7506, the RIGHT ear cup label is RED; the LEFT is BLUE.

And maybe it's just because I'm older but I don't really hear colors much anymore.

Occasionally I can hear the difference between green and yellow but red and pink is a wash these days.

If it really bugs you a little Black Gaff will fix it.

Ah, the price is already back at $85! I was lucky to see it yesterday!

I know it's a small thing, but it would bother me and gaff tape seems like a crude fix.

It's good to know that, Rick!

I have gaff over the head band of mine because I didn't like the white printing on it. But then I hang out with FX guys and they probably have a different definition of "crude" than production mixers do.

I too have had V6, V7 and 7506 since the mid 80's and they are my choice for i-pod and general music listening and recording, I also have the HMD25's but find the sony's more comfortable for general use.

Very similar to what Rippie stated, I've been using the Sony 7506/V6 since 1990, I bought a set of Sennheiser HD280 summer 2013. Used them for a few days and just couldn't get used to the sound of them either. They were comfortable though, worn on-ear, but not when hung on my neck, where I frequently hang them between takes and such. (as seen in my member photo)
