Sony Light any good for the DVX

Anyone use this Sony light (HVL-20DW2) with the DVX100. I was at an event and this guy shooting with his p150 said it was awesome and it looked pretty bright.

Plus it runs off some sony batteries that I already have but I'm not sure how it'll work with the DVX.

I've had one of those for years. Yes, it does work well for certain situations. Since you already have batteries that will work it may be worth it.

The cool thing is it has two 10 watt bulbs and you can turn on one or both. I've also taped a small piece of diffusion gel (Opal) in front of the bulbs.

It works just fine with the DVX. It's switchable to be either one lamp or two, 10 or 20 watts. If you already have the Sony batteries for it, it might be a good choice. I used it for an event once. Even though it's only 20 watts, when combined with the DVX's great low-light performance you could light up quite an area with it. It is a harsh directional light though, so you do tend to get the "deer in the headlights" look with it.

Re: Sony Light any good for the DVX

yup for events they work great, i had bought a frezzi dimmable mini fill light (also softbox), I sold it because I liked the 10/20 better...the frezzi changed color temp when dimmed and was too bright...with the sony pd150 i usually shot with 10w, but if I was using my dvx100a i would likely find 20w better...just remember if you sell the camera how will you charge the batteries?

I popped mine open and cut out diffusion paper to soften it's light, looks better than stock.

regards,

chris

The Lenmar Mach 1 Alpha speed charger will charge Panasonic and Sony batteries... great accessory.
