Sony L Series Batteries Question

Hi,

I have about 10 Sony L Series 970 batteries that I use with my Odyssey 7Q and my FS700. I have been using them weekly for the past 3-4 years and a few of them perform really poorly and only last about 50-60% as long as the others. I even have on that will not charge to 100%, the camera says its 66% when its at full charge.

Does anyone know of a good way to rejuvenate the batteries? Is it just that once they age and go through a bunch of charge cycles its just time to replace them?

In theory, you could cut the casing open, desolder the cells and swap them out with new ones, resolder everything and glue the casing back together; it's probably beyond most peoples capability though. Some generic NP-F970 batteries use six 18650 Li-ion cells, and others use six LiPo cells.
 
Unfortunately that's just what happens over time with Li-Ion batteries. At least they don't heave the dreaded memory loss of NiCD batteries, where re-charging a perfectly good battery improperly could cause it to go bad overnight!

Not much you can do other than replace them.
 
That's the lifespan of the chemistry. Time to replace them. Just make sure to dispose of them at a proper recycling center.

I used to have to recell my old Aaton camera batteries every 18 months or so. Cost of doing business.
