Sony July 26th

I still use my EX-1 on about 40% of my jobs (F3 on the rest) and would be thrilled with a 2/3" sensor at 50mbs 422 10 bit internal on a new EX-?. We will see..

Yep,
use my ex-1 also still very often...
and a 2/3rd EX would be tempting...
don't know if i did if i had the 14x zoom lens for the f3 though... wish they made a 2.8 4x zoom with AF and Stabilization for the f3...
that'd be an instant purchase...

Sony already has a 2/3", 50mbps, 4:2:2, SxS camera - the PMW500. Bu it's only 8-bit, which I understand is the limit for all MPEG-2 XDCAM cameras.

Exactly. Sony will not be giving the world a $6,000 2/3" 10-bit 4:2:2 camera when they have a $20,000+ (8-bit) version on the market. Not to mention the PMW-350 which is 2/3" as well.

I could see an updated EX-1 with the 50mbps codec, 1080p60 and maybe some better ergonomics.

+1

They don't need a new big chip camera, they don't need a new shoulder mount (only if it's a s35 shoulder mount:)), what they do need to do is update the EX1 and EX3 cameras. And if they put 2/3 chips in there, woohoo:) But I doubt that they would do that.

They are announcing the "next big thing" so judging from this it should be something substantial.

Agree with all of you about them putting the same specs in to a EX that they have in some of their bigger cam's. But, when they say "next big ...." what in the video world these days is bigger that's a positive?, sensors and codec's.

If whatever they are releasing is the next big thing, then a better codec in the EX-1 is old news. Canon and Panasonic have had this covered for quite some time.

Now if they found some way to have a hybrid 2/3" with servo motor lens and a large sensor all in one camera. That would be the new new thing! Ex-1 with the 50mbps codec...good but not that worthy since 10-bit and raw are coming to the forefront.

Would be hilarious if they announced something like:
-16gb TxT cards
-360 degree viewfinder
-BP-U720 battery for ex1

:)

Joking aside, i hope it won't be pmw-ex5. I got an ex1r a few months ago, so i'd be really sad if that's the case. Hopefully it will be something different :)

Why do I feel the need to start stretching my stomach muscles so that I don't have a hernia when I fall on the floor laughing at their "next big thing?"... I guess it's a learned response from Canon.

Here's hoping that they will pleasantly surprise.
