Sony HX9v successor and more! (HX10v, HX20v, HX30v, HX200v, H90)

Question I am asking myself is how much of an improvement over the HX9V is the HX20. I've copied out the main apparent differences below. You can probably get the HX9V now for at least $100 less than the HX20 when it comes out in May. Looks as though the already very good stabilisation on the HX9V has been taken a step further. Tests will show if low light performance has been improved.

Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization reduces shake and blur by countering camera movements in both horizontal and vertical directions. Active 3-Way stabilization adds digital rolling control that counters clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation, resulting in more stable videos even at long focal lengths.

The 18.2MP Exmor[SUP]®[/SUP] R CMOS sensor captures ultra-high definition images that take full advantage of the camera’s sharp Sony[SUP]®[/SUP] G lens. An advanced BIONZ processor rapidly analyzes the Extra-High Sensitivity data from the sensor, and activates By-Pixel Super Resolution technologies to reduce noise levels up to 6X compared to previous CMOS sensors, resulting in stunning low light images with incredible details.

To improve focusing speed and sensitivity, the Exmor R[SUP]®[/SUP] CMOS sensor uses its rapid throughput to deliver high-quality image signals to the camera’s BIONZ[SUP]®[/SUP] processor. The result is fast, DSLR-like focusing speeds, even in low light.

The doc says it can film at 1080P @ 60 FPS and snap 18 Megapixels Photos at the same time (without cuting the video clip...)
That would be a nice one

Also remember that it has a 20x optical zoom. 40x with their digital implementation that doesn't effect video quality. I'm all for a longer reach. Especially when the have added to their already amazing image stabilization. (We'll see if it is better and if it can handle a jump in zoom distance like THAT....) This one is very cool for my needs.

+1, on that one. I'd use this NON-STOP pretty much. Since I shoot so much video now, my photo stuff is suffering (unless it is a professional photoshoot, duh). But for my own stuff, I shoot video all the time. Not having to swap cams, or stop shooting video to get a shot of something that I'm already filming......OOOOO YYAAAAA!!!!! :)

Thanks for the heads up on that one. I didn't realise that it did that in video mode. I assume it's similar to crop modes such as in the GH2 and 600D/T3i. I only got a HX9V last year. I like it as a carry around camera and the video is very impressive. The extra focal length would be very useful to me. A 1000mm eqv that you can put in your pocket is quite incredible, almost 3x the reach of my HX9V. I use mine for wildlife recording either when I haven't got my DSLRs with me or they are in a macro set-up. I also noticed that the HX30V supposedly has a closer macro setting than the HX20V. Not important to some, but to me it is to me. Incidentally you can focus closer with the HX9V if you set it to X2.4-5 rather than 1x.
