I want Canon to have interchangeable lenses and recording to Compact Flash in an HDV/AVCHD hybrid. And I want Panasonic to have a DVCPRO-HD/AVC-Intra camera with interchageable lenses and Compact Flash. For now, these will be the cameras I want. :smile:

I just hope they don't have all of the progressive problems of the HVR-V1U...
 
are we talking CF's and not express cards here? very interesting. Can anyone guess how long you can record 1080 on one 4 or 8gb CF?

Must be around 4 minutes per GB (same as DV, both are 25Mbs). So I'd guess about 16 minutes on a 4GB, 32 mins on a 8GB.

The data rate means that even pretty CF low spec can be used, such as Sandisk Ultra II. (I think that's rated to about 70Mbs?) It would limit download speed though, so Extreme III may make more sense (160Mbs). Still pretty cheap - about a quarter the price of SxS or P2.
 
Though that press release talks of product shipping "in the middle of the year" (2007) - any updates on when we may see it?

It also assumes it will be fast enough - there's been no word on speed.

But a lot of potential if it can deliver.
 
The inclusion of full progressive 1080p24 and 1080p30 is a step in the right direction but the camera still does not support 720p60 which is the best high definition for the fast action sports but rather the obsolete 1080i60 interlace format.
 
Why aren't more people talking about the Z7U? It looks to offer many advantages of the HVX plus interchangeable lenses, the ability to record HD to tape, and simultaneously dual-record to (cheaper than P2) CF cards. Looks like it will be a great indie filmmaking camera.
 
Will the Z7U record 1080p 24p to Compact Flash cards or a hard drive? Or is it only via HDMI out? Hard to determine from the press release (or else I'm missing it).

I know many people eschew HDV, but if you don't mind working with it, this is an attractive camera. I like the idea of having a tape archive, but the editing convenience of the CF cards. Plus, interchangeable lenses.

Yes, the HVX is overdue for an "A" model.
 
I'm not sure as the rest of us on the final specs, but you can triple record with this camera. HDV to MiniDV, HDV to flash, and 4:2:2 live record via HDMI. So if you don't like HDV, you can capture 422 (hopefully with a standalone device like the one proposed from CineForm). You get interchangeable lenses and fast data access via cheap standard Compact Flash. Now besides a possible rolling shutter and light sensitivity issues, it sounds like a camera that could possibly incorporate a lot of the things people in Indie Film are looking for. Like so many of the other cameras on this site, its not a Pani so...
