Sony hints at cinema lenses

At the end of Sony's live webcast they pulled out a cart w/ some lenses & a couple bodies that "won't be out on the NAB floor"

I had a loud kid chatting in the room & didn't hear anythinge definate, but it sounded like they're making Cinema lenses & looks like they might have a 4K DSLR in the works (at least to me).

Anyone capture the webcast, take notes, or have a better image?

My guess. I have been guessing that since last year when Kazuo Hirai became head of Sony and talked about 4K for high end consumer devices being part of Sony's comeback strategy.

Sony has never made a DSLR that cost more than even $3000, so I doubt that they would make their 4K DSLR cost a huge ton.

Also their strategy is to not just sell you a 4K DLSR... but a 4K TV... and a PlayStation 4... etc. A very expensive 4K DSLR won't help much there.

During the Press conference, he stated "It was future development" also he stated, "The display would not be on the exhibit floor." Great to see Sony stepping into the 4K DSLR Cinema arena!

I don't remember the actual words "4K DSLR". It seems like innuendo that that is what he was talking about, I'm just at a point where I have a lower tolerance for rumors & want info directly from the horse's mouth.
 
I do not recall Sony showing a prototype at a press conference the day before NAB and then not putting it on the floor behind glass. This must be a quick mockup because of the new black magic camera 4k camera.

No, Sony has shown prototypes behind glass in the past -- quire often.

Besides, Siny will likely ship it before blacmajic anyway -- in 2014

The article implied that these would not be even shown behind glass today, we will soon find out if it is not on the floor even behind glass then I will assume they were quick mockups to respond to Black magic's new camera.

I just re-watched it & they pretty much said they're working on "still / motion cameras" which sounds like a 4K DSLR to me. Also sounds like cinema lenses, or lenses with video people in mind.

Over all it seemed like a "We don't have anything exciting to tell you today. But we're working on things, so get excited by our vagueness."
