Sony GV-HD700 deck and 24pA?

I am a DVX-100 owner and frequent HVX-200 user. Recently I've been shooting more and more in 24pA mode on mini-dv. I'm looking to buy a mini-dv deck, and Sony's GV-HD700 caught my eye because it's affordable and has a built-in screen.

However, will this deck play and digitize 24pA??

I need to digitize about five hours of 24pA footage into my (Final Cut Studio 2) system (17" MacBook Pro).

I've heard a variety of opinions on the topic, and haven't gotten a consistent response.

My camera buddy says, "All formats the DVX-100 shoots are (ultimately) 60i. The Final Cut SOFTWARE will remove the Advanced Pulldown, thereby CREATING 23.98 video. Those tapes will work FINE with that deck. And ANY DV deck that can play 60i footage."

My editor buddy says, "No. 24pA is a DIFFERENT kind of video altogether. If the DECK cannot read the flagged frames, the software won't be ABLE to remove the Advanced Pulldown. Only decks that can play 60i footage WITH the 2:3:3:2 Pulldown will work. That deck won't work."

Normally I'd believe with my editor friend, but he admits to NEVER editing in 24pA before. And my camera buddy has NEVER edited at all. So... I don't know who to believe.

Ultimately, I'd like to buy an affordable deck that I can use to digitize ALL my footage into FCP (60i, 24p, AND 24pA).

Any thoughts on this?

BTW, in case anyone else is faced with my same decision.

I ended up buying the Sony GV-HD700, and it works with my 24pA footage, just fine. So, my worries were unfounded.

Also, the 16x9 screen instantly recognized my anamorphic footage and displayed it correctly. Nice touch.
