Pretty amazing tech for archiving data. I wonder if it would ever find a use for in-camera recording.

Looks great - the problem with the LTO systems is the drives are so expensive if you're only backing up a relatively small amount of data (say 10TB a year as opposed to 10TB a month, which is what these kind of devices are designed for). I really like the mTape by mLogic, but it's $3,500. If these drives were around $1,000 - I would definitely use them as the tape media is relatively affordable and reliable.

Honestly, I don't know why more people don't go into a drive together. 2-5 freelancers in a city could purchase a shared drive for only a few hundred each & then the tapes are under $25. Soooo much more reliable than drives for back up / storage.

They'll get better. The name of the game here isn't speed it's security and safety. I'll take the slow speed...
