Sony F35 selling for $12,000+, down from $250K in 2008

That cam is still a beast though, I love the look of the footage it produces. I like it better than the f3, but hey thats just me.

It reminds me of the automotive industry, you know your vehicle's gonna depreciate as soon as you leave the lot. But they reel you in with creative market and low interest rates. I think a good amount of people out there just don't have the cash in hand to make such a big purchase, so they go the "No money down, No payment for 18 months, ect.... By the time you start paying for the camera, it's obsolete tech, not worth half of what it costs new, but people continue to do it just keep up with trends.

I honestly believe that the new Sony is worth financing, I don't think you would need an upgrade until the camera physically does not work anymore. They hit a home run with this thing, global shutter, 4k, uncompressed, great latitude. what else do you need? I just don't see an upgrade, maybe unless they ditch any external recording device. but still, this would be the end all cam for me. I just don't have the work to justify spending that much on a camera right now.

I agree. There used to be a time when you could buy a 30-year-old Hasselblad, and it worked just as well as the day it was made. That day will come again.

If I had $12,000, this is what I would buy for sure...14 stops of DR, beautiful color, global shutter - It's almost like a Super 35mm film camera, without the hassle of film. Maybe my prop superbowl bets will pay off! (kidding!)

I think prices will come down, but second hand will not come down as far percentage wise. But there will always be something else.

the F35 doesn't have 14 stops of DR. It's somewhere between 11-12 stops. What's great about it though is that it allocates most of that DR in the highlights (much like film).

They had one up for $8500 USD and I think someone on this forum bought it :P
I was considering getting one but 5 KG body only is kinda too much weight for my type of work sadly :(

Isn't a Red One for $3000 a better deal?

A Red One needs a lot of accessories to get up and going, so I'd say you'd have to add quite a bit to that starting price (not mentioning the cost of storage for your 4k raw files).
In the end it comes down to individual preferences, though. The two cameras produce widely different images and they handle differently. Personally I prefer the easthetics and efficiency of the F35, so for me a $3000 Red One is not really a better deal. But that might not be the case for you, of course :)

I like how the main picture for the article is "Superman".

Not even the F35 could make it a good movie ;)

Good luck finding a Red One for $3,000 or close. Red, for a limited time had battle tested Red On MX's for $4,000, but they sold out quick. After putting everything needed in my cart during that sale to figure out a total the cost was about $8,500. Not bad, but still nowhere near $3,000 though.
