Sony ECM77 low volume

I have a Sony ECM77 that is 12 years old and the volume out of it is real low. It is a $400 mic and I hate to think it is worthless, but, has anyone done a repair on these before? A new ECM44 is half as much and that would do fine for my purposes.

Have you checked the obvious? Cable, transformer/battery module internal wires, connections, proper Phantom Power or bias power from transmitter. Battery? As I recall with the ECM lavs, the battery must be removed for Phantom Power usage. If the wiring is compromised at or in the capsule, it probably can't be easily or economically repaired.
