Sony DV Cam Tapes

Hey guys. I used to use SONY PDVM-40N DVCam MiniDV tapes in my old JVC-GYDV500 PAL camera before the camera exploded...I now have a DVX-100a and am wondering if the twenty tapes I have left can be used in this camera. I seems as if most of the users on this board use the recommended Panasonic tapes. Does it really matter? Thanks!

Re: Sony DV Cam Tapes

PDVM40's are all that I use. Search for plenty of posts on mixing tape brands (lube turns to glue).

Re: Sony DV Cam Tapes

The compostion of the Panasonic Tapes is far superior than any other brand right now. It is recommended to stick with kind of tape as each different kind has different chemical composition and sometime it cause residue build up on you heads in the camera. The Panasonic PQ & MQ leave less residue on the heads than other brands, mainly because they have a dry composition base. If I am in error, please correct me, but this information I picked up on this forum.

Re: Sony DV Cam Tapes

I'd agree with bodaphoto about most all other tapes, but Sony DVCAM tape is good stuff too, some of the best. So basically pick one brand and stick with it. If you use DVCAM tapes at all times in your DVX you should get great performance and never have a problem.
