Sony deck or Panasonic deck?

Hi,

I'll be getting a Panasonic DVX100A camera. Should I go with the Sony DSR-11 deck or does the camera choice mandate that the deck be a Panasonic model (AG-DV2500) due to lubricant issues?

Thank you.

Re: Sony deck or Panasonic deck?

I use the sony dsr-11, it records DVcam, the Panasonic doesnt. The wet/dry lube thing wont be a problem if you only use dry tapes in it.

I think for mini-dv, Sony builds a better deck. Just don't use Sony tapes period and you won't have issues.

Neither! Been using my JVC DVCAm ($200) for hundreds of hours of shuttling and it still runs great!  ;D

Re: Sony deck or Panasonic deck?

I bought the Panasonic (well, the JVC version, but it's identical) because the Sony was about $250 more. If I had it to do over again, I would probably get the Sony instead, just for the dropout protection that DVCAM provides.

"Just don't use Sony tapes period and you won't have issues. "

I've been using Sony premium tapes for the past several years...shot hundreds of them...and have never had any dropouts or any issues with my DHR1000 deck, or any of my cameras, including my DVX100a camera. Obviously some people are going to have occasional problems with any brand, but denouncing an entire brand, especially a major brand is kind of silly. Just use one brand, of your choosing, and stay with it. That will be your safest bet against problems. Good luck.
