Hi,
i have a sony cx760. I want to record the audio on the cam.

i have the choice of buying the sony XLR-k1M adapter and microphone kit adaptor for 800$ that i can connect on the shoe of the sony.

Or i could buy a juicedlink.

The thing is the sony audio recording can be adjusted to "low" or "normal". (with a canon 60d i could have put the audio recording a notch over zero).
Would the juicedlink cancelled the noise created by the cx760 set at "low?
Would the sony XLR-k1m adaptor will cancelled the noise ?

Which one would you choose if you were me, and why?
thanks in advance,

Let me explain it this way, EVERY piece of audio gear has a 'noise floor' a low level background noise created by electronic componentry..... The amount of noise is very dependant upon quality and expense of the parts, cheap parts = more noise....... expensive parts = less noise.

So that means every recorder has noise...... Then if you put a 'low' audio signal onto that noise floor, when you replay it the noise will sound quite loud.
If you put a 'normal' level audio signal onto that noise floor, when it is then replayed the noise will sound much less compared to the audio signal.
If you had a 'high' setting on your camera / recorder it might raise the audio signal further away from the noise floor making it even cleaner....

BUT if you have a LOUD signal going into the recorder it might be to much for the electronics to handle and create unpleasant distortion on the recording so you will need to 'low-er' the signal going into it....

Personally I would choose the sony adaptor as it has been designed to work with the camera.

As for noise floor you are really nit picking here and this is semi pro kit but will perform quite acceptably if used correctly, most of the cameras have a dynamic range of about 90db and the noise floor is way down from any audio modulation that you will be doing.

I have a canon HF11 and have previously had a sony V1 and Z7, they all have acceptable noise floors for broadcast work and pretty much match my pro cameras the panasonic HPX371.

Get out and start shooting and the rode lav mic is also acceptable and an even match for both converters!

Really depends on what you want to end up with. The "noise floor" is not going to be a huge problem probably but if it is having the camera set as low as possible and a better preamp feeding it will help a bit. Since they put the built in mics behind the lens hood I'm figuring they didn't spend a lot of time thinking about sound. Personally if I were going to camera mount I would get the Rode Video Mic because you can use it when you change cameras. If I were booming I would probably go with something like the Sound Devises MixPre.

But in truth I would be going to a second recorder and not going to the camera.
