SONY CINEALTA HD in FCP HD?

Question for you FCP HD pros out there.

I might have access to a Sony Cinealta camera for a shoot. Problem is how do I go about editing it? Can a G5 using FCP HD import and edit footage from that camera?

Found my own answers. For those who are curious:

You will need a deck with HD/SDI, a capture card in your Mac that handles HD (e.g. any of the HD offerings from AJA, Blackmagic Designs Decklink, Aurora, etc) and a fast disk array (Xserve raid, SCSI). Capture using the preset that your capture software installs. Remember that there is no native HDCAM codec-- Sony keeps that proprietary. So, you would use 8 or 10 bit uncompressed.

You beat me to it. ;)
If you're not wanting to purchase all of this stuff, you can have a post house get it onto external drives for you. I recently edited a couple :30s spots shot in HD from 2 500gb lacie big disk fw800 drives striped together in a RAID setup. Worked like a charm. Took the big disks back to the post house and they output back to HD and DigiBEta while I waited. I never saw the bill so I couldn't tell you how much they charged but I can guarantee that it was considerably less than the investment of an AJA converter, which are coming down in price fairly quick, especially if you don't need to work in HD very often like myself. I think even to rent a deck for a day to capture everything is going to cost close to a thousand bucks. I just assume have someone else do it for me.

Thanks for the info. I'm starting to question bothering with the camera for this shoot. I mean it would look great of course, but it sounds like it's going to be terribly cost prohibitive for my purposes to get through the post work. The DVX still looks better and better all the time, eh?

Yeah ... it definitely depends on the job. I mean any chance you get to shoot with a big time camera is cool but if you're not going to make any more money because of it, it's probably not going to be worth it. Hope it works out though.
