Sony cancels the release of The Interview

I saw it in the theater. Freakin' hilarious! This was a definite go see it in the theater movie, because it was fun to laugh with a bunch of other movie goers in a packed house.

I wanted to see it at the State Theater in Ann Arbor, but that theater really isn't designed for large crowds, and I didn't want to risk a distracting angle on the screen, or something similar.

Can you imagine, you're a first time director and your movie is supposed to get a wide release in about 3,000 theaters, then it's yanked, then it gets released in only 300 theaters. Plus, who knows what people REALLY think about it, because half the people talking about it don't care about it at all, they are more interested in the politics of N. Korea, and or the Sony hacking scandal.

I would think Seth Rogen would have preferred the movie sink or swim on it's own free from all this controversy which has nothing to do with a comedy, and is in general not funny. This would be great if you were a documentary film maker trying to make some political statement, but it's not so good for a comedy.

You know this is Rogen/Goldberg's second film as directors, right? I'm not sure if the above was just a hypothetical, but it sounds like you're suggesting these guys are first-timers haha

Your second point is interesting (about the politics overwhelming the film itself). But if nothing else, Rogen, Goldberg and Franco just became a huge part of Hollywood history. This may or may not ultimately change how the entertainment industry runs in the end, but I'd bet good money they'll still be referencing this debacle in film schools twenty, thirty years from now.

And here I was just starting to hope people would stop talking about this terrible movie...

Just showed up on Netflix so I watched it. Pretty much hated the first 20 minutes. Franco nearly ruined the film, just an obnoxious character and not in an amusing way. Thankfully, once they got to North Korea Randall Park showed up and saved the movie. He was great, taking what could have been a cartoon and making Kim a real character. Franco became less grating and the antics between he and Rogen were much funnier. On the whole I enjoyed it. Was it worth all the hullabaloo? Probably not. Was it worth watching on Netflix for a couple of yuks? Absolutely.
