Sony AVC rendering question

CABAC vs CAVLC, which should I use? The default templates for online within the Sony AVC codec in Vegas, always use CAVLC. The Bluray templates use CABAC... Why? Is there are compatibiliy issue when using CABAC that would be problematic for online distribution/viewing?

I've read this: link but it does not explain the best profile for online delivery/compatibility. Baseline vs Main... Which will be most compatible with mobile devices? Which will be the highest quality profile?

I have been rendering out 720p 24fps footage using CAVLC and have had no difficulties. I am just wondering whether there would be an advantage to moving to a different profile other than baseline CAVLC.

Would there be a drawback or positive to rendering out using Main/High CABAC? Good/bad?

Thank you in advance or weighing in!

CAVLC = lower compression, larger filesizes, doesn't require as much cpu power to decode, supported in all h.264 profiles
CABAC = higher compression, smaller filesizes, requires more cpu power to decode, not supported in baseline and extended profiles

I say stick to CAVLC for most applications since it's supported in the baseline profile (for things like mobile devices). Use CABAC for Bluray discs targeted at dedicated Bluray players with hardware dedicated to the decoding.

I looked at the wiki, was just curious about the details. For MPEG2, for example, there is a great bitrate calculator for creating beautiful vbr rips compliant with DVD Architect. However, I have NEVER heard of a bitrate calculator for creating the most effective mp4/avc rips.
