Sony announces new camera - HXR-NX3

This is a 3-chip camera, so, nothing to do with that other story about a non-Bayer sensor (which, as I read it, refers to one single big sensor).

Also: those 3 sensors are 1/2.8", so, not very interesting if you ask me (though yes, I know there are lots of people still making great stuff with small-sensor cameras)

This is actually pretty freakin awesome. A 3 chip camcorder using 1/2 inch chips for under $3500? I'm gonna have to pick one of these up for filming the run-n-gun and live performance stuff.

Yep.

If it were another actual 1/2" sensor camera for that price it would seriously encroach on the PMW-200's territory.

does anyone know is the wifi feature would be usable with an iPad "without" latency? i mean good enough to use the iPad as a monitor or not functional in real time much like the GoPro3?

1920x1080 & 1080p60 got my interest

now I really want to see an updated Z7U with those chips, specs & HD-SDI

In addition, the new LSI has a 40x “Clear Image Zoom” technology to offer 1152mm(*1) focal length with virtually the same quality as optical zoom.

I'll believe the quality when I see it, but I still really don't trust any type of non-optical zoom.

Ive always hated the lenses on these cameras. We have 3 of the nx5u nxcams at work. Image is sharp but just too digital looking for my taste. The iris & focus ring are simply electronic switches. Of course if you just wanna switch the cam to auto everything and trust it to make decisions for you then I guess that woks. lol

That's one big thing I loved about the Z7U, the stock lens had "real" (not-electric servo) control of the focus & zoom. The iris was still servo, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

This is also why I really like the EX1 lens, you get "real" control of all three - zoom, focus & iris. Supposedly the XF300 / 305 have real control too, but I haven't tested it out.

And while the electric control has gotten better over the years (I used the XL1s & manual focus was just about useless b/c of the delay), there is still something about having that direct connection to the lens.
