I love slog but I've never had good results with LUTs (banding and bad color gradations in general), I'm probably doing something wrong in my workflow because other people seem to do fine with them, but I also see lots of complaints from people using slog+LUTs so I'm not alone here either.
Anyway: I shoot with these settings, then I use curves to de-log (download them for free here), then MB Colorista and MB Looks to color correct and grade the footage.
Hi samuel I remember using your settings and Kohli's back when I had a Sony a7s - I never did say thankyou - they worked well but I presumed they should only really be used with slog2, for the most dr I was always under the impression that slog3 was the way to go? Perhaps I should try them in slog3
Indeed, slog3 has more DR, and I have never used it but sgamut3.cine is probably better than my settings. What I posted is what I use on my slog2 cameras. My point is that you could make something similar for slog3 and it should work just as well.
SR5 rumors that the a7 III is coming relatively soon, with specs very similar to those of the a9, except for the 20 fps and probably the dual card slot. Maybe Sony is just trying to save me a couple grand...
At a7III prices (<$2k?), I'd be terribly happy with just getting one of my two main wishes right now: either an extra stop of DR to match the FS7 on that front, or 4k at 60 fps. Plus of course a clean image without aliasing/moire, wich I'm not sure was the case on the a7 II.
