<<Sony will have an announcement on October 18th, 2017, at NAB Show in New York. This Nab Show in New York is marked as “Media in Action”. This means Sony will announce a new video related camera or camcorder.

Currently, Sony a7SIII and Sony FS5 Mark II are in the to be updated list, as they are both video related products. My guess is that Sony FS5 Mark II is the most likely to be announced at this NAB Show in New York. While Sony a7SIII is likely to be announced in 2018, after announcement of Sony a7III>>.

They way I see it we should see a A7 III before A7S III. But there's time for either A9S/R or FS5 mkII. On the other hand Sony FS5 mkII should be a camera with trickled down features from a camera higher up as they usually do it, and there are few features that can be implemented from the FS7 without hurting the FS7 to much.

Then I see the F55 and F5 as two cameras that really should be updated if that's Sonys plan to keep the F-serie alive.

And the a7RIII should come after the a7III...a7SIII should be last, but I guess they could always mix it up.

a9S or a9R is free to arrive at anytime IMO...it would be a new model.

Was expecting a FS5 MkII announcement at IBC in September...so my money's on this as the one they will announce. The buzz around the EVA1 makes it almost inevitable...and knowing Sony they will react as soon as they can :-)

The thing is update the F55 with what? The camera already does basically everything which is important. Sure you can pile up more HFR and things like that. But that's not really an upgrade as much as just more gravy. This is why I think Sony has decided to stick with it. There are more cameras that can't do all it does and that well than cameras that can.

I don't disagree - I have had one for almost 2 years and love it. But higher bit rate 4K, 422 4K, at least at 25/30fps and some XAVC-I options would be terrific. Of course, that would probably need XQD cards. Oh, and while they are at it, a better LCD please...but of course we won't get all of those and Sony will not want to cripple FS7 MkI and MkII sales. Will certainly be interesting to see what comes out of this rumour, let's hope something good!

This...

Yeah, the 55 isn't perfect, but what else do you really need in it? Sony has stood behind this camera from the get-go and continuously pumped out firmware updates making it better and better. Even if you bought this camera on day one, you still got a great deal, especially when you look at what all you have in it, now. I still see this camera as being relevant for at least several more years, if not longer. It could easily end up being a "ten year camera".

It would be nice if Sony came out with a 10-bit mirrorless camera to compete against the GH5. 10-bit through HDMI output would at least be a step in the right direction.

Sure. That I can see. But to me that would be what I was calling gravy. Not really an update as in a replacement camera. More of a MKII thing. Because the camera is great as it is.

The only logic camera to release is either A7III or A9S or A9R which would follow Sonys release history. Other than that it's awful crowded between F55/F5->FS7->FS5.

A FS5 mkII would need XAVC-I or internal raw and a few improved things on the camera body but this looks less believable. Or it might just be something completely new - FF sensor?

Would it be reasonable to think something that would accommodate the growing field of VR / 3D?

Having shot some VR projects over the past two years, I am fairly convinced that VR is/was a fad as a mainstream storytelling tool. It will always be around for selected special applications and it appeals to the headset gamer generation, to a point, for certain things. Nokia just stopped making the Ozo, they have bailed on VR, there are numerous other lower end VR camera projects that never got off of the ground and I think that should tell us all something, VR is a bust for most users and consumers, other than the fringe. I've now experienced a lot of it and it's a gimmick. A cool gimmick, but a novelty at best.

It's probably a new HDR monitor or a radio link. If it's a camera, it'll be one of their broadcast 2/3inch chip jobbers. I can't see any new cameras in the F Series.
