Sony A77 release very soon - is this the 5D/7D/GH2 killer?

also, DxOmark has already tested the nex-c3, which uses the same sensor as the 5n; it is all stills-mode, but it looks awesome: better than the 7D in all measurements, and similar to the D7000 on most (it seems to be the same sensor, with different -worse- tuning): http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Ca.../0/(brand)/Sony/(brand2)/Nikon/(brand3)/Canon - though it cannot come close to the 5D2, though: http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Ca.../0/(brand)/Sony/(brand2)/Nikon/(brand3)/Canon - (and now I shut up; I wouldn't be messing these pages so much if the new forum allowed me to edit my posts from my PC at work)

The GH2 seems noticeably sharper in the EOSHD test...too bad I really like the little 5N and the low-light performance, but it doesn't seem like any of these Sony's have quite enough overall image quality oophm to switch, for me.

The 5N noise reduction was on it's highest setting in that test and the picture profile hadn't been tweaked not to mention the fact that the GH2 was hacked. The Sony has a lot more dynamic range and lower noise than the GH2. Every other DSLR looked bad straight out of the box too.

I'm still interested in the Sony A77. Is there any new footage? Any new reviews?
We know the stills side is great, just want to know if the video side is workable.
This camera will become even more interesting if it can be hacked :)

the world would be more interesting if it could be hacked....but don´t hold your breath - seems a prevailing attitude now that panasonics can be hacked , is that all cameras can be hacked with the same level of success - not true - my guess is that for video the nex 5n or vg-20 will outperform the 24mp sensor

I read somewhere that these NEXs have a 1.4x and 2x crop mode, what image circles would these translate to and thus what lenses coud be used?

Just received my 5n. First impression is that it is really small. If I grab the 16mm this could be a pocket camera, which is pretty amazing. Charging the battery right now, but I doubt I'll get a chance to shoot anything tonight.

i like some of the stuff ive seen out of the 5n so far, but i cant get a really good idea of what to expect out of this camera in terms of IQ when all im seeing is highly compressed street corner and mall videos. im sick of test videos as much as the next guy, but someone needs to shoot a res chart or some fine detail with this thing, maybe even along side a canon or gh2 so we can compare.

thats a good aAF test there.

Yes it is :) Might become a real game changer with that feature alone. It seems to be faster and more accurate than the GH2's CDAF.
Might make autofocus actually useable/dependable for run n gun shooters :) at least thats what Im hoping.

As soon as B&H ship mine I'm gonna shoot a short with the 5N and Leica/Iscorama glass. Looks like Andrew has nailed the picture profile and I've already sussed the manual so now I just need the damn camera and a couple of actors. If I have time I'll shoot some of the scenes with the 5D for comparison.

It does, it can even positioned towards the subject. I think they term it as 3 point rotation.

that's the A65, the A77 has an extra hinge at the top and does swivel up: http://www.dpreview.com/previews/sonyslta77/page3.asp - http://www.dpreview.com/previews/sonyslta65/page4.asp - anyway, what I want a swivel screen for is to have it on the left of the body, looking towards me, for shoulder mount simplicity and stability... and that can't be done with either A77 or A65, just with 60D, 600D and GH2 - this sony swivel thing looks overengineered with some other guy's needs in mind

I remember reading on one of the rumour sites that the reason for this overengineered lcd design is that there is a patent issue with the normal hinge design of the Canons.
If that is true it would explain this unconventional design decision.
I don't plan to use a Sony A77 on a rig so its a non-issue for me.
