It looks very interesting and I hope to see it come to Verizon by the time my two year contract expires in Jan 2015 for my HTC Droid DNA.

The external stereo-microphone STM10 looks like an interesting accessory for serious videographers.

Connect Stereo Microphone STM10 to the 3.5 mm audio connector of your Xperia Z2 4K and Xperia Z2 Tablet video and turn your device into a high performance video and audio recording device. With a 90° tilt function the STM10 can be pointed towards the main sound source for best results while your smartphone focuses on the subject of the recording.

Is it even possible that, 6 months from now, 4K may have become "the phone look"?

This is what I'm shooting my next documentary on. Is there a good tripod mount?

Have you seen the new Samsung S5 ? It was out yesterday too. 4K video, image-stabilized, slow-motion etc.

Good times.

There is no real innovation to be found in the camera department. Samsung S users also still have to make do without an optical image stabilization system but the camera resolution has been increased from 13MP to 16MP with 4K video capture capabilities.

Same as the Note 3 4K smartphone, no OIS.

Holy compression artefacts batman! Even worse than 1080p on smartphones.

What data rates are they hitting? It looks like they have tried to maintain the already far to low 1080p bit rates with 4x the pixels.

The Z2 uses software IS that crops the image so a 4K smartphone with OIS like the LG G Pro 2 should work much better.

In keeping with the current trend for 4K video recording in smartphones, the Xperia Z2 joins the fray with a new SteadyShot feature borrowed from the company's Handycam line. It's software-based image stabilization that promises to reduce the jitter and imperfections that result from unsteady handheld video. Sony's demonstrations show it's effective at its task, though the end result can sometimes appear unnatural — mechanical image stabilization of the sort you'll find in the Lumia 1020 or LG's G2 is always preferable
