Sony 4K camera coming under $5,000 ?

Sony, please. Make a 4K (real 4K, not just 4K UHD) NEX-VGxx model with a better viewfinder and HDMI 2.0 output. Natively record up to 12-bit XAVC internally and allow the FPGA to be hacked to permit CineForm RAW encoding (to be output over the HDMI port). And include an OLPF. As to the sensor, well, oversampling at >5K -- and dual-gain readout (for 14-15 stops of DR). If you want to use a global shutter, I won't stop you! The way things are going, these features should be doable in a VG form factor for about $2,500-$3,000.

That is not the same as the 4K prototype Handycam shown at CES 2013 in January so maybe this is a pre-production model that should be coming soon.

The CES model was pretty basic, lacking many controls. Or at least it didn't identify them. This newer pic looks more like a finished production model.
4K for the masses - I like that.

I wish Panasonic and Canon made cameras at the clip Sony it making them! Ever since the Ex-1 Sony has had a release camera first and ask questions later approach. But in reality, 4k is not for me for a pretty long while. I would rather have better DR, no noise (or noise reduction) and light sensitivity of at least F11 @ 2000 lux in a small video camera rather than more resolution. From what I have read, 4k from a small sensor will not check the boxes...yet.

I wonder who will be using the 1" Aptina 4K sensor.

That sounds like it would be too good to be true. It would be amazing if it happened.

it needs to be made clear whether or not this thread has become entirely cynical. some people hopes might be gotten up, as what usually happens with sarcasm
