Sontronics STC-1

Anybody ever use a Sonntronics STC-1 mic? Any good?

Use it for what? Like any other tool, a mic has to match the job it's being on to do and saying one is good or bad has to be in relation to the application.

That being said, never heard of Sontronics before.

same as the 'chiniz' mics oleg was raving on about a while back. I'm sure noel evans will chime in here soon, he did a comparison with these mics to the oktavas and the sontronics performed, to my ears, better.

I'll use it mainly for interior interviews, but would like to be able to use it for interior dialog for my shorts. Hopefully Noel will chime in.
Thanks

It seems to be designed a an instrument mic and I would worry about using a cardioid for dialog. The more directional a mic the farther away you can work it with acceptable results. I think you'll find that at the distances from the speaker it would be when used as a boom mic for dialog, the sound quality will be less than desired. I see that a hyper capsule is available for it and that might be okay. But I'm just guessing, I don't have any firsthand knowledge of it to offer.

We are the US Distributor for Sontronics. The STC1 uses interchangeable capsules, so you can purchase an STC-OMNI or STC-HYPER capsule to change the pickup pattern. I would tend to agree on using a hyper instead of a cardioid indoors.

For what it's worth, we chose to distribute them b/c of their great quality and consistency for the price.
