Sonic Smart Sound

I have a version of Sonic Smart Sound that came bundled with some Canopus gear I bought some years ago. Being a bundled version it has limited tunes. Does anyone know if I can use downloaded buyout tracks with this program? My gut feeling is that I can't, because as soon as I go to Mystro, it calls for the disk. I like what the program does, but I am lothe to spending US$600 for their update softwear! Any ideas appreciated.

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

I use the freebie Smart Sound that came with Premiere 6.0 all the time... bought a bunch of audio palettes for it. In fact it's the only thing I even use Premiere 6.0 for anymore, I tab over to it and use it to generate audio files.

Don't know what Mystro is...

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

Barry, if I could spell .... nah forget it! Maestro is what I meant, mine opens & asks if I wish to go to Edit or Maestro.
Did you get your palettes from Smart Sound? Thanks for your info. Brian.

PS. I am not an insomniac, it is 9.20pm tuesday 1st Feb. down here! ;D

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

Oh -- sorry! Thought that was some sort of Canopus program. Should have made the connection though.

I run Maestro from Premiere, so you would probably have to run it from your old Canopus editing program. And yes, all the audio palettes came directly from Sonic/Smart Sound.

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

Actually, SmartSound is only $249 and ships with two bundled cd's.
With the new version, SonicFire Pro 3, and a high-speed internet connection you can audition any track in the entire library, which coincidentally you can then instantly buy and download for about $20.
I prefer to browse the volumes and pick a couple that suit the projects I'm working on. You can't beat the fact that SFP will tailor the music to your exact duration and is royalty free. It's definitely cheaper than hiring a composer! http://dvcreators.net/products/sonicfirepro.html

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

Barry & Guy, many thanks. Looks like I will probably go with the prospect of spending some dollars. AUS$ is about US$0.77 which will put nearly AUS$100 on the price. However as Guy mentioned, the program does the job & thats the main thing! Mine must be a true 'TRIAL' version. It is a stand alone disk & does not need an editing program to run it, asks for it's own disk when prompted to compose. I love it, does everything I need but the limited range of tunes is getting on my wick a bit! so look out credit card ;)

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

Barry,

I have the Smart Sound that came with Premiere and was wondering if there is any reason to upgrade the software. Will all their current music work on this old version?

thanks

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

The current music libraries work with the old version, yes. I still keep Premiere 6.0 around just so I can run SmartSound, and I've bought more libraries for it just last year so it still works.

I don't know if the old SmartSound plug-in would work with the new version of Premiere, if that's what you're asking (but I don't think it is)...

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

Barry, I have your Book and DVD, it came with my second DVX. It looks like it will be a big help with my film project, thanks for writing it and doing the DVD! I haven't finished reading it through, I still need to finish the script for the movie first. I have recently bought the Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 set as well as the After Effects 6.5 and I didn't find the Sonic Smart Sound CD with it. Do you know if it comes with the current edition? Thanks.

Also I'm curious, you don't seem to like the Adobe programs, is there a reason for that past personal preference? When I was looking into my project my good buddy recommended their software and the Matrox card, which I have now. He was familiar with them and so I went with them. Are there things that I need to know from your perspective that would help me utilize them better?

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

I haven't used Premiere since version 6.0, so I don't know if the current version still includes SmartSound or not.

I don't have anything against Adobe or their products, I still use PhotoShop frequently, I just found that Vegas 4.0 was, in my opinion, devastatingly superior to Premiere 6.0.  I mean, "night and day far and away extremely much better in every imaginable way and I ain't kidding" superior.  Since then Adobe has released Premiere Pro, and Vegas has released 5.0, and I just can't fathom going back to Premiere now that I'm a Vegas addict.  I don't miss AfterEffects because I'm not "all that" on compositing anyway, and Vegas has built-in compositing tools that far exceed my capabilities.  For editing, workflow, compositing, and audio adjustment, I can do all that in Vegas, vs. having to hop between three or four programs with the Adobe suite.

I know that some people love the Adobe solution.  Neil Rowe, whom I have the utmost respect for, is a Premiere Pro user.  So I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with it at all -- it's just personal preference, I think the Vegas solution is brilliant and I'm very very happy with it.  Now, if they don't support DVCPRO-HD in the next version, I may have to start shopping for a new editor, and that will be a *sad* day...

Barry I took a look at the Sony web site and saw that they have all three for, to quote them; "Vegas Movie Studio+DVD, ACID Music Studio, and Sound Forge Audio Studio software for only $199.00! Save nearly 20% off of list price!" These are entry level programs for a pretty good price. Do you think this package would be a useful addition to my budding software collection? Also do these programs work well with the Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro video capture and editing card?

Re: Sonic Smart Sound

I haven't used the lite versions of the programs, so I don't know. I don't believe any of them will work with the Matrox card specificallly -- Vegas is hardware-agnostic, it doesn't know about (nor use) hardware capture cards like that, as far as I know. It uses a regular OHCI 1394 card for DV capture.
