sometimes I hate non-technical people

Speeking about good analogies:

You hear all thos girlies out there saying
"Oh I´m so fat, I got to go on a diet and loose some pounds"

But I never heard on of them saying
"Good Lord, I´m so stupid, I got to read some books"
:) Frank

Doesn't say anything good about how we encourage women to see themselves.

If your focus is on the world telling you how great you are, you're probably in for a rough ride.

A certain amount of self-promotion is reasonable and necessary.

I may get some flak for this but you probably should ask yourself why the kid's first sentence wasn't enough for you. I would have said " Hey, thanks man. Yeah, I have a pretty cool camera." If your focus is on the world telling you how great you are, you're probably in for a rough ride.

I do see what your saying. And I see how this looks. But I don't think I'm like that.
Thats exactly what I said though. I said "hey thanks, man. I like to think we put alot of effort into it." (I really DON'T have a nice camera though!) I know he didn't mean anything harmful by the question. But I seem to get these kinds of questions alot. And they almost always come from people who have never tried creating anything.

When nobody cared about the film when I showed it in class I really didn't care. Like I said I expected it. Its not my mission for the world to tell me how great I am. It's just when people BLAME what I've done on my gear I feel my stomach turn a little for whatever reason. I'd rather hear no feedback than feedback concerning "so was it your gear?" I hope that makes sense.

Gotcha. The funny thing is, when Sad Max misread my post and responded, the advice he gave is something that I really need to hear at this particular point in my life. I'm not a good self promoter at all, it's been the Achilles' heel in all my professional endeavors.

Just let non-techies find out for themselves how hard it is to make a movie, its not worth your time and energy to try and explain unless they insist on it.

Thats the approach I take on life, unless someone asks me a specific question I keep quite (at least I try to).

"I'll let you find your own way"

Well, it's nice to be useful, even when one blunders into it.
