Sometimes I forget how awesome X-files was.

Had X-files season 6 on today while drawing. Totally got distracted by the "Triangle" episode where the entire episode is a series of single continuous shots. There's just never been television before or since that's on par with X-files in its prime. Spectacular stuff.

Yeah, I really loved how they had fun on that show. Such as the one where it was all black and white ("The Great Mutato") and the one that was an parody of COPS ("X-Cops"). Really wish we had a newer show that was as interesting (especially considering how much TV show cinematography has changed since then), though Fringe came close then went off completely off the deep end.

I've always loved the episode Bad Blood, it's told from different people's perspectives. Scully seeing the Sheriff (Luke Wilson) as this handsome guy and Mulder seeing him as this buck toothed hick always cracks me up. I loved how they would do those episodes (mostly the Monster of Week ones) in that sort of creative way, there's quite a few actually. Triangle was an awesome one too.

I recently found I had missed the last season or so, I don't think I can fully express how excited I was to find out my X-files journey was not yet over..... then again I'm still waiting for the final movie about the 2012 takeover(though I don't think it's coming)....

Great show!

Humbug was great. Weird, funny, unnerving - X-Files at its best.

Mr. Nutt correcting Mulder's assumption that he was a circus performer

Mulder "I'm sorry. I meant no offense."

Nutt "Well, why should I take offense? Just because it's human nature to make assumptions about people purely on the basis of their physical appearances? Why, I've done the same thing to you, for example. I've taken in your all-American features, your dour demeanor, your unimaginative necktie design, and concluded that you work for the government... an FBI agent. But you see the tragedy? I have unconsciously reduced you to a stereotype, instead of regarding you as a specific, unique individual.

Mulder "But I *am* an F.B.I. agent..."

Yeah Triangle was absolutely brilliant, my favorite episode.

I want to believe!

I have the entire series on DVD and I watch it all the time. It's a HUGE inspiration for me. I'd name favorite episodes but there are SO MANY it is too difficult. I was chatting with Dean Haglund (lone gunman) at DragonCon this year about his new painting series of 'Villians of X-files'. I bought one of the prints which is the human sea sucker thing from the sewer system on the sub.

The mom living under the bed......

The small indian man on the cart that squeaks when it moves......

Toomes.......

:)

I think I might need to watch some tonight now! :) I think Fringe has come the closest to all the shows since then. I do like Fringe in its own way myself. It's fun.

Squidging himself into the shape of a Citibank card must have been good practice, for playing Tooms...

What's awesome is that just like Buffy and BSG, the whole series of Xfiles is on Netflix Play It Now. My Blueray player with WiFi + Netflix Play it Now = Great television.

And I too am waiting for the 2012 installment. I don't think it's an automatic no-go. Even if they think the film would be marginally profitable, they'd probably still do it. The last film actually wasn't completely horrible, it was just bad timing. It was supposed to be just another monster of the week episode and was supposed to be released soon after the show ended. But since they took so long to get it done, the anticipation was too great and the politics too dated.

Also, post-Mulder X-files was no X-files. If they could have gone out in season 7 (ala Buffy), I think they would have taken the mantle without objection and would have held it to this day. The whole Ducovny departure really hurt the overall stock of the show, despite it still being well produced, acted and directed after he went on semi-permanent hiatus. What they got out of those last couple of seasons they could have probably traded in for a massive film franchise opprotunity.

The lesson? Always go out on top. Don't wait for them to turn off the lights. Whedon is writing and directing Avengers and has turned his TV series into one of the more popular comic book titles on sale today. Chris Carter (who it could be argued is a better writer/director than is Whedon) isn't doing much of anything. Sure all of the X-files staff are still working (including Kim Manners who right now has the series Grimm on the air), but like Whedon, Carter has always been viewed as the best of the bunch. Sad that he couldn't have the foresight to see that X-files just isn't X-files without Mulder. It's his character's plight that drove the entire series. Once that perspective was missing, especially for such public non-plot related reasons, the show just couldn't be resurrected.

Still, rounds 1-7? Friggin Ali.

The Host is an awesome episode.

I love this about Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose....

CLYDE BRUCKMAN: I don't know!(Mulder slinks back in his seat. Bruckman half-looks at him.)
Look, it's just up ahead. You know, there are worse ways to go, but I can't think of a more undignified way than autoerotic asphyxiation.
(Mulder leans forward.)
MULDER: Why are you telling me that?
CLYDE BRUCKMAN: Look, forget I mentioned it. It's none of my business.

I was just recommending the Triangle episode to some film students today. We were discussing cutting back and forth between alternate and interrelated timelines.
