Sometimes Capture Quality Matters

Sometimes capture quality matters. A higher level of photo-realism enhances the sense of 'presence', dimensionality and approachability. The content of this movie is compelling enough- note also how the high quality camera work and editing promote the necessary suspension of disbelief that makes an interview movie seem so realistic.

the more relevant question here is what make the subject - here those two men - fascination and worthy of a talk show. 9min into it and yet i have to hear one interesting idea... which proves to me that great execution (the lighting of the talk show) can't substitute lack of content as NOTHING that's being said is fascinating.

This kind of makes me thinking about lectures by Zizek - where it's fascination to "watch" even though you are not being told anything new v. lectures by Marschall McLuchan where it's boring to watch but fascination to "listen." Here those two fashion/photography guy don't have anything going for themselves.

90% of entertainment is in the experience, not the take-away. High production value is a VALUE because it adds a lot to any production, interesting or not.
Do you not agree that if the production value is high that at the very least, the viewer MIGHT become more interested in the content than if the production value was low?
I mean Cars are functional objects but it's the High Production Value of exceptional print and TV adverts that make them sell as 'Lifestyle accouterments'...
Then there's the link between photo-realism and credibility.
I only had one tiny criticism- talent needed a touch of powder to kill the hotspots ;)

Here it's a "talk show" - so there HAS to be something to take-away otherwise its intrinsic entertainment value is gone.

It all depends on the community of interest. If a viewer is not intrested in the subject , disagrees with the speakers or hates vintage eyewear- then sure- they'd move on.
I know a LOT of people that don't even hear the content of what they are seeing on TV in ANY show. They just watch the pretty pictures. :undecided

I'm going to bet that's not really true . . . or they're the type of people who just have the TV on for background noise, in which case "production value" doesn't mean anything.
