I was under the impression that if I use two different mics and capture on two channels with the DVX that Vegas would import two different audio tracks. Instead, I get one track with a left and right audio layers. Is there a way to use two mics to capture two tracks of audio that can be imported to Vegas? Do I have to adjust some settings in either Vegas or DVX to accomplish this or is it not possible at all? Help!

Make a copy of the audio clip. Right click; select "channels." Choose "Left only" for one and "Right only" for the other.

A stereo soundtrack is exactly what you describe: two individual mono tracks. So it's doing what you want, but it gets imported as a "stereo" file. Splitting it like David said gives you what you're looking for: two individual mono sound files.
As far as four tracks, you cannot record four tracks at once. You can record two tracks live, and then later you can dub in two more tracks, but you can't record four tracks simultaneously. The DV spec permits it, but no camera allows it (unless maybe the XL1 does, I seem to remember that it might).

Im thinking that in using a separate AUDIO program will also allow you more options? I use ACID where you can create multiple tracks and merge them into one (basics of audio recording)

I don't actually see how to do it in ACID. It doesn't have the same right-click Left only/Right only option, and I don't see much the help menus . . .

Im sorry David; I just meant in creating multiple tracks and then inserting into Vegas as one (one track that is a combo of others).

Ah. You know, ACID has a lot of tools . . . but you can do 85% (estimate) of what you'd do in ACID right within Vegas -- 'specially now in version 5, and that extra 15% is *really* advanced stuff . . . MIDI editing, etc..

Really? Im still stuck on whether or not I NEED Vegas right now; I dont think I do and might wait until '6'. Im prioritizing right now and I hting Vegas 5 will not make me a better filmaker at this time.
Other tools I want in my arsenal.

What are you using for compositing? Vegas 5 has much-superior ability over 4.

Right now its a matter of me to start creating films; I have everything I need (more than most) and although I want some other 'accessories' I need to figure out how to start becoming a filmaker and not talking becoming a filmmaker; this damn comapny I own is taking good strides in revenue ($10,000 a month currently and rising...) and the wife and child and my fitness and and and and and........
