Something funny about "The Event"

I'm watching the show. In "the Event" no one knows who was in that Van. It's a mystery as it came out of nowhere. Yet it most likely has a purpose, probably to help the main character escape captivity.

Therefore the joke is that the mystery is really the family from the commercial.

I think it's pretty funny, but you do need to understand it a tad.

The RV from the commercial plows into a car on the TV show?

Exactly.

While it is not the exact same RV I had seen that commercial enough to notice the similarity. When it hit and the lead got out of the car and started walking around I saw the man hanging out the window and laughed. "Blue shirt!" No way so then I went looking for the Orville commercial and sure enough blue shirt, desert landscape, almost the same model RV way too much of a coincidence.

That's why I think it was their own inside joke.

I think it was don on purpose, but seriously if they showed the family laying out in the street or stumbling out of the van then that would definitely kill the joke. That would really be overdone. So if it is an inside joke then it was well played.

I doubt it was an inside joke. There's something going on with the main character that we don't know about, and makes me think that the crash was intended, and therefore someone specific in that van. I doubt it's an inside joke, not even sure I see the blue shirt you're mentioning.

But maybe you're right.

The driver in the commercial is wearing a blue shirt and the driver hanging out of the window is wearing a blue shirt. Granted if it is just a coincidence, it's still funny.

and thanks to whoever fixed my subject-line typo.

I really doubt you need to know what's going on in the show itself, what happens in the clip is pretty self-explanatory.
I've never heard of either the show or orville, or seen that commercial, and I had no idea whatsoever what that clip was refering to.
But at least it was explained afterwards in the thread.

 Sorry I never considered anyone from outside the US.

Well the first part almost in its entirety is the Orville Redenbacher commerical. It actually ends with a voiceover saying "bringing families together..." The rest is nearly the full scene from "The Event" on NBC.

If anyone watches the show I forgot to mention a huge storyline continuity problem. Soon as I say this you'll get it immediately, but they were coming down the road and the deputy stopped them. It was a 'blockade' and the deputy said a big rig flipped and there was a spill that they were cleaning up. Lead character Sean Walker says "the plane is just over that rise" and the FBI agents aren't buying it. So they go to turn around and wham the RV slams into them...okay they weren't allowed to go a specific direction and which way does Walker drive off in the deputy's car? Exactly!
