8:05 this morning on the 4th of July I get yet another automated phone call from Simmons Bank looking for (let’s call him) *Julio* about some possible fraud. I know no one by that name and I’ve had the phone # associated with my business for about a decade.
Usually more than once a month someone calls looking for Julio and it’s always about some type of debt collection or fraud.
I have told them that the number belongs to me and I do not know Julio and they say the # will be removed yet the calls keep coming.
There are 2 possibilities I can think of but I cannot determine which is the case.
1. Can you set up an account and give someone else’s phone #?
2. My ex life-long best friend and business partner (let’s call him) *Joe* set the phone up about 10 years ago for the business. I did nearly all the work and with my gear. Joe's father was our CPA. After Joe stole literally every dollar I worked 100-120 hrs/week for I was later able to finally get him out of the business after an unbelievable sea of lies. Joe had the phone until I was able to take it over 4 years ago. I wanted to keep the # because I had invested A LOT of marketing time/equity in it.
Since then I continue to receive calls for people sometimes looking for Joe and usually people looking for Julio. So I suspect Joe was involved in some type of scam(s) and made up the alias Julio. I now know for certain Joe and his father are greedy bold face liars and have pleasure in deceiving others so this scenario seems likely.
The collectors/banks/callers won’t give me any information at all when I ask if this suspected fraud is happening in XXXX state or if this so-called Julio used the phone # to set up the account before or during the decade it has been associated with my business.
They say maybe Julio previously had the phone # and I say maybe he did, but was it prior to 10 years ago? No answers and they act like I'm the crooked one.
Any thoughts?
