I've tried everything under the sun. And I cant get this freaking project or any project for that matter to print to video. This is soooooooo hard. I read the manual, I read every post on here, I read every post in every place I could find, I did searches, I did trial and error, I think I just about tried everything under the sun, really. I've even took the project rendered it with current settings and I still cant print that to video! WOW!! I feel defeated, and frustrated.

This is the deal, I have footage that was shot on the HVX at 720 24PN. I edited in FCP 6 in those settings. After I was done I opened the sequence in a new NTSC sequence, so I can print to Mini DV. I get many problems. First when I get the footage to show up in my DVX lcd screen it only shows up as a single frame. I did what I'm supposed to do and that is to click ALL FRAMES in the VIEW section. I still only see a still frame when I play the timeline! Next when I try to PRINT TO VIDEO I get audio only and no video!!!! :kali: ARRRRRRGHHH!!!!

I've tried many many many suggestions here pertaining to this problem. My settings are set to FIREWIRE BASIC, I even tried FIREWIRE NTSC and the same problem arises. I tried turning on the deck first and then starting FCP still nothing. I even checked to see if my AUDIO VIDEO settings are correct, they are as follows...

SEQUENCE PRESET: DV NTSC 48
CAPTURE PRESET: DV NTSC 48
DEVICE CONTROL PRESET: FIREWIRE NTSC BASIC
VIDEO PLAYBACK: APPLE FIREWIRE NTSC (720 x 480)
AUDIO PLAYBACK: FIREWIRE DV

My sequence settings are as follows
FRAME SIZE: 720 X 480 NTSC (3:2)
PIXEL ASPECT: NTSC - CCIR 601/DV 720 X 480
EDITING TIMEBASE: 24
COMPRESSOR: APPLE PRORES 422(HQ)

I believe they are correct, I tried trashing preference's I don't know if i trashed them right or not. Either way I'm stuck and I have been stuck for awhile. I even reinstalled FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 and UPDATED also!!

Is there something I missed that I should know about? This is very hard, any help from you guys that have experienced this problem, or anyone who knows what I'm doing wrong please chime in, I feel so embarrassed for myself that I cant figure this out. :undecided

Thanks in advance.

i don't think you can stream firewire to a dv cam unless your sequence is dv ntsc. it looks like you are using pro res. in that case, a single frame, not a stream, is normal. try making a dv sequence using the dv ntsc codec at 720x480 and drop your hd sequence in. render, and try again. should work.....

HAHA!! You read my mind because I just figured it out. I hope this helps anyone else cause wow did I have a rough time getting to this conclusion...so sad.

I think my real issue was this...

I HAD MY EDITING TIMEBASE SET AT 24 fps

I set it back to 29.97 realizing that DV NTSC does not do straight 24 frames. It does it progressively threw a 60i timebase. I think I'm saying it right.

Then I did exactly what you said cheezweezl, but did it on my own, I think typing all that stuff out in this post made my brain see more into it, funny how that works. But yes I changed the COMPRESSOR settings to DV/DVC PRO - NTSC and that fixed everything. I learned a lot and I'm so glad that I know how to do this. I hope this helps those that are having the same issue.

Basically you have to make sure your settings fit what your outputting to. I know this is a big DUH! But in my case I had PRO RES set while I was going out to DV. And I had a setting of 24 fps, while I knew I was going out to a 60 timeline. Just wasent going to work.

Hope it helps. Now I can play GTA 4

uhhhh yeah. gta 4 has been owning my life since tuesday too....

on a side note, you still can output a dv 23.98 timeline via firewire. you just have to set your pulldown options to 2:3:2:3 in the "rt" tab and your computer must be fast enough to support this. fcp inserts pulldown frames on the fly to conform your 23.98 timeline to 60i. fyi....

Good info thx. Actually I had it set to 24 not 23.98, just straight 24. Because it was originally from HVX shot at 24 pn.
