Alright, well my video is 1hr long, I made it in after effects, and fcp; put it all together in imovie, and exported through Imovie and it came out to be about 10gb... I need to burn it to a 4.7gb dvd... I've never burnt to dvd before, but is it likely that 60mins of raw footy would be over 10gb?... I plan on burning to dvd in dvd studio pro for mac, will it compress it really bad, and make the quality come out really bad? Any ideas on exporting from imovie at full quality, besides full quality dv? Please help me out, I don't want the quality to be horrid. Also if I make dvd menues will that reduce the quality of the overall dvd?... it just doesn't seem right that it is 10gb for an hour of full quality dvd, when the blank dvd's say they hold 2hrs of video.

Tou should EASILY be able to fit a 1hr movie on a standard DVD at 7mb/sec. compression

What are your settings?
well i haven't tried yet, the thing is, i was wondering how badly compressed it was going to be considering it is more than 10gb and it has to be compressed to a 4.7gb dvd...

it *should* fit perfectly fine at the highest quality mpg2 you can generate for DVD. remember that a normal feature 2 + hour film can easily fit on a standard store bought/manufactured dual layer 8.4 GB DVD at full quality with a ton of extra features and behind the scenes stuff as well. granted they likely have better compression software than you do, but my suggestion would be to just set your bit rate @ 7.4 mbps max using as may passes as you can and a variable bit rate with AC3 audio encoding.

The initial size of the AVI or does not matter when you are transcoding to MPEG2. I had a 52GB 30min AVI last night that I compressed through CinemaCraft Encoder at 7.5mb average, 6pass VBR, and the end file with sound was 1.6 Gb....Took a while tho....like 3 hours....
