Somebody get me the email to the TA on "MERCY"

Okay, I just saw a HUGE medical mistake, both in protocol and technique.

Somebody needs to get their head out of their A$$, and give some real medical direction on this. The scene would have not been any less dramatic or fast paced. Just more accurate. And the scene called for accuracy, not a scripted mistake.

Errrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, yeah, I am a sucker for pre-hospital trauma shows. Usually, minor mistakes, those I can overlook. But, crap, this was a biggie. Wrong ventilation technique on a c-spine patient. Major A class mistake. Ranks up there with working on the wrong patient.

WTF?!?! Okay, I am done with this show. Even the newest medic knows the saying "White to the right, smoke over fire". Wrong EKG electrode lead placement. This show is more flash than substance.

Sink into obscurity, "Mercy", you lost me as a viewer.

LOL, now I am pissed and have a pet project. LOL, just joined their FB Fan page and linked them to this thread.

when aren't there mistakes in medical shows? like when they get out the paddles and jumpstart the guy's heart that has flatlined like they're jumping a car...

Believe it or not, the body does give a slight jerk when defib'ed, maybe not as much as shown on dramatic TV. That is one of the things I can overlook. Protocol says zap a flatline in the field, just in case it's fine v-fib. If it is asystole, then nothing comes of it, if fine v-fib, it can be reversed.

Oh, the stories I can tell about zapping a patient (2 very distinct ones come to mind)................but another time, I am on a soapbox right now.

Back to my regularly scheduled rant.
