first post on this board of this Vegas n00b ;)

I'm busy editing a bootleg concert which was of very low quality. It looks a bit better now (a bit brighter, less camera-bouncing, more colors, etc.) but I'm still not satisfied. I've made some screencaps with on the left the original video and at the right the video I've done so far.

(I know; a bit 'too much' here..)

There's still a kind of...a grey mist, and there isn't much detail either. I know it will never be as good as a professional recording, but it can be better than this I think.. What would you guys try to make it a bit sharper and clearer? Which plug-ins are usefull?
Thanks! :)

Hey Hankster,

John Meyer has some excellent information about VHS restoration:

2- To get a good idea of the colors, view using an external monitor via firewire.
Next best is using windows secondary display... check the studio RGB 16-235 setting.

3- It looks like your camera improperly converts levels. (Almost all DV cameras do this.) Anyways, to counteract I think you're already on the right track.
The levels filter should be able to fix it: my article
*Actually I recently noticed that some of the info about DVD players and adding fake setup is wrong, but that's not relevant to your problem here.

Unsharp mask can be used to add perceived image detail:
