Some shotgun mic history for your viewing pleasure

Following on from other threads re the best and tightest shotgun mic this big baby was used in the old days!

It wouldnn't have been used much - it's a dynamic mic. and very insensitive compared to a condenser.

AKG also used to do a dynamic gun mic. - the low sensitivity made it useless for any practical use and it was discontinued very quickly, as I suspect also happened to this mic.

The Sennheiser RF condensers were around in the early 1970s (maybe even the 1960s) and very quickly became the gun mic. of choice for the film industry - Prof. Sennheiser even got an Oscar for it.

This is the same mic that was posted in the other thread. Supposedly they were used a bunch for sports broadcasts and for the presidential debates. Came out in 1961.

He got the Oscar in 1987. The MKE range was introduced in 1972. The MKH started in 1961, but as far as I can tell phantom powered shotguns didn't really become available till mid 70's.
It's really hard to find info with any specific dates for Sennheiser mics, even on their site they talk about series but not specific introduction dates.

Dynamic shotguns date from the 50's and were still common in schools and theatres (in the US anyway) in the 1980's.
