Some mics we don't talk about very often...

I was thinking that with all those mic comparissons and toughts and recomendations, we never left the Sanken, Sennheiser, Audio Technica, AKG, Oktava, reign. Aren't we leaving out two important manufacturer's, like Neumann and Beyerdinamic? I don't know their mics, but I'm sure they sell products up to the standards. In fact, I heard once that one of the russian Neumann factories was colectivized (I don't know how to say it - was given to the employees), and that they offer a range of nice microphones with old (vintage) Neumann technology for a much better price. Does anybody know of such a thing? And what are the good deals those companies are offering?

The Neumann 81 and 82 are both great shotguns with a clean, crisp sound... they are well worth the price they command which is in the neighborhood of the Sennheiser MKH60 and Schoeps MK41.

The Neumanns are generally less forgiving then the MKH in that you really need to be aiming right at the speaker's mouth.

I'd LOVE to do a showdown which included Neumann's mics. Can anybody hook me up with a sample unit? ;)

At this point it looks like my next mic will be either an AKG 300b/ck93 or else the Sanken CS1.

I had a Beyerdynamic m58 newsmic and I liked it well enough, but the AKG sounds a lot more natural and full. (D230)

I'm sure that Beyer makes some great mics, but you never hear about them used in any major productions... the Neumanns are though.
