Some Help. Initial DVX Set-up w/ FCP4

Please bare with me, as this is my first real experience with the DVX100A and FCP4... I am having some trouble getting the camera "hooked up" to FCP4. With properly functioning cable(s) (4pin-6pin), IEEE1394 ports on back of G5 working properly, I am stumped as to why FCP4 / G5 (running OSx 10.3.8) will not recognize the DVX100A. Is it possible for some one to give me a few initial set-up guidelines, or maybe a website to refer to. I am stunned that the Panasonic Manual and THE DVX BOOK do not elaborate AT ALL on the DVX - to - computer procedure. I have searched the archive(d) posts, with not much luck... I am not sure if it is a FCP4 issue, a DVX100A setting issue, or an Operator Error issue! Thanks is advance.

Respectfully,

There really isn't much to the connection issue.

Make sure to connect camera to computer directly. Avoid going through firewire drive if you can. For initial tests you might disconnect any firewire drives.

Make sure your camera is turned on and in VCR mode before starting FCP. (button in back left)
If FCP doesn't see it when you turn it on go to View -> Refresh A/V devices.

If that doesn't work you might try another cable and make sure everything is firmly connected.

Scott,
Thanks for help... I had already figured out most of that... The main issue that I have now, is when I get FCP4 open, and it recognizes the camera in VCR mode, I attempt to Log & Capture, after selecting clips, and I choose to capture NOW, a seperate FCP window comes up, and says "Waiting for Timecode - Device must be VTR mode when Device Control is enabled." FCP then sits like this, with no change, for several minutes, then the window goes away... I would appreciate some help, I am sure it something I'm doing, or a setting I have made, or not made.

Thanks in advance.

Use the batch capture command. Have a peek into the FCP manual for capture workflows.

Hi intro2trig,

Your Cam has to playback before you hit capture now.
Just Capture now won´t start your cam.
Hit the play button on your Capture window and when the camera plays your footage hit capture now button.

As Noahk said, if you already loged the clips, use batch capture to import your clips.

Not the issue for you but related for some people - Waiting for timecode can happen if you use other cameras for input (especially cheaper non-Sony cameras)
In this case change your settings to non-controllable device and manual do the playback/capture control.
