Some Audio/Computer hookup questions

I want to hook up my Sennheiser 416 to my MacBook Pro, but I don't want the quality to be less than the recording quality of the DVX. Is this possible? If so, what hardware will I need? I'd like to be able to record audio directly to the Mac because I'd have to travel with less stuff.

Do I need Logic Pro to repair audio like I do in Adobe Audition 2.0 on the PC? Or are some of those tools included in FCP and Soundtrack Pro?

You should probably get a preamp. Something like the PreSonus Firebox. That'll help give you the best sound when you hook up your mic. It powers via Firewire and has XLR & 1/4" inputs.

You will need some type of audio interface for your computer. There are lots of them out there with 2 or more channels and USB and firewire interfaces. The Mackie Onyx Satellite is a pretty good deal, you can get them for about $200, and has onyx preamps. The MOTU Traveler is a great multi-channel interface (they use that with Metacorder to film Lost).

soundtrack pro is fine for an entry level audio editing software. You should make sure that your interface is compatable with whatever software you choose and really shop around before you get something.
