Some amazing VFX work

damnit. you know how jealous it makes me watching these things? I wish I knew how to do all that digital stuff :(

assuming all the squibs were digital, they were even better than the one in the departed.

Cool link

In the expository, specifically during the color correction tests, you see a guy squatted down and the background sky is just overcast white. The next shot they show in the sequence shows that they changed that overcast white to like, an out of focus factory or something. Now I know this would probably be pretty simple to do if the shot was static, but the shot is moving (handheld shaky camera). Is that still hard to pull off? Is it meticulous frame by frame work to paint in that background?

And a simpler question: Regardless of if it's handheld or not, is hard to "paint" in the background *around* the subject in that shot (since he's moving himself). Or is the reason they're able to do that because the subject is digital as well?

i believe it's called "matchmoving". You place virtual markers in the shot and key frame them to match the camera movements. The when you put in any of the the effects hopefully they all appear to have been in the shot. I have no idea how you do it or what software ppl use.

I wish i had the discipline to learn how to do that.

that was pretty good, if you want VFX, but wanna do it on a shoe string budget then check out this webpage:

http://fxhome.com/

They have a bunch of easy to use software that can do neat stuff.

These guys who made the programs Graduated from my home town University, from the very Masters Course I was interested in doing, and some of the sample on their demo reels are really near my house ! (the woods footage)

Its really easy app to use.

But if you really wanna do serious stuff, you need to learn the dark arts.......

I've worked with a few students that went through gnomon, but know most of the
instructors... the volume of talent teaching there is staggering.
