OK to start off hello, I am a new member and have been reading this forum and doing research for the past two weeks.

I am in the process of buying a DVX form B&H. I like the package I am getting, because it includes the Adobe DV rack software. Has anybody used this and I would like some feed back on it, and if you did what pc set up did you use? Do you get a discount from B&H being a forum user?

I plan on getting a Azden SGM1X mic. I know you get what you pay for...but for $150 I think this may not be a bad mic. Any suggestions for 150 to 200?

I am also looking into the Redrock Micro M2 setup, though I have read good things about the Brevis35. Question do all 35 mm adapters invert/flip the image when using them on a camera? I have seen some setups where the external LCD monitors are physically flipped. I know the Brevis is better cause rails are not needed, but the M2 looks sexy as hell.

Using the 35 mm adapters, do you choose witch adapter mounts to use (canon, Nikon) by personal preference? or because of what lenses you currently own?

Thanks guys

I think most people here will agree than if you want good sound, you are going to have to invest a bit more than that. At $150, it's not going to be pretty bad. Remember sound is half the picture. Try Oktava, they are outstanding russian mic, definatly the best for the money. Do a search on this forum, it's a pretty popular mic.

I have had both. Get the Brevis. The redrock is very good, but it's very heavy. The Brevis I feel is a much better adaptor. It's lighter, the light loss is negligable, the set up is very fast and you can choose between different ground glass.

Most adaptors, exept for the Letus35 invert the image. Most people use a small field monitor anyways, so not a big problem. Both Redrock and Cinevate (Brevis) are coming up with add on flip module for their respective adaptors...

Yes, you can choose your mount. Most people get Nikon.

I plan on buying the Brevis HD bundle. My friend who is a photographer uses Canon EOS lenses. So I am going that route.

I plan on using the indifocus setup with cavision rails.

Is this a good match?

For mics I am going with Oktava 012.

Thanks for the help guys

Heres my opinion. Whilst I think the Octava with cardioid cap is a good performer in dull interior spaces (great for me in Japan where thats mostly what I get) , the hyper cardioid doesnt perform so well - you would be better of with shotgun mic. Id do some more research there and be prepared to spend a little more.

If I were you right now, remember just MO and I have no alterior motives in this post, I wouldnt get the DVX with the 35mm adapter. Id go out and by myself a HD Canon A1 and forgo the adapter for now. With the Canons long lense you can get a much shorter dof than possible with the DVX with some beautiful bokeh. By doing this you will have some $ to put toward your mic choices.
