Solution for simultaneous recording and monitoring Tascam DR100 mkii

This is one of the things that make handhelds a bit unsuitable for video, and as I see it there are two ways to go. The first is to get a mixer and monitor the levels on that instead of the handheld (my own preference as a mixer offers many other things as well). The second is to find a way to mount the handheld so the meters can be seen, using either a bag it can lie in, or use a kind of magic arm between the handheld and a belt or other bag (I think there was a thread about this a few weeks ago).
 
The PB case is nice, if it's belt type bag, it will not likely put the meters in line-of-sight without other modification... at least for the wearer. I would suggest an external preamp or mixer. A quality external device would have far superior mic preamps as well. But I'm sure you've already read the "$300 Recorder" sticky.
