Solid black with pure red cirkle and foreground

We want to film a person in front of a pure black background, with a pure red cirkle in between the person - black background.

We know how to create a pure black background and good exposed foreground. But we dont know how to create the red cirkle (in between)

Example:

We dont want such a big cirkle, and the background must be solid black (but how to do so, without under exposing the cirkle...)

I hope someone can give advice, thanks.

well you could do a number of things depending on your resources

1) green screen
add a black background and a red CIRCLE in post

2) shoot as is - black
rotoscope the body and put in a red CIRCLE in post

just depends on what resources you have. If you have access to AE, you can do both of these things.

Or, practically:

Actual black wall, with at least 20-30 feet separation from your foreground. Red circle could be done either by a tightly focused spotlight or by a backlit trans-light or similar. If you have access to any sort of stage, either option is probably easier than post effects, unless your camera is never moving.

Backlit translight sounds good. You could also just cut a circle out of wood, and paint it. Place it several feet in front of black wall. Use an elipsodial light with a circle pattern( gobo) to light the red circle.

Or paint the wall black and then paint red circle over it. Or paint the circle as white, and use red gel to make it red... The light spilling outside the white edge will not register, since the black will absorb the light.

If you went the green screen route, you could put the red circle on the green screen (hopefully a decal of some sort so you don't ruin your green screen) and then replace the green with pure black.

Now... if you want your talent low lit along with the black wall. You could do the wall with a cut out idea (a circular cut out) and then place a red wall behind the wall that is cut out (and painted black by the way) and light the red wall any way you like (probably placing it ten feet back so you don't get too much spill from the red). So basically, camera, a few feet talent, a few feet black wall with the circle cut out, a few more feet red wall/sheet light brightly.

I'm sure you know this, but if you do this digitally you will have to be careful of the red. Depending on your camera you could either get bleeding or pixelation.

Any way just ideas, I'm no expert.

Thanks to all for the amazing advice that has been given!
I would print this page out, and discuss the options with my teammates.
