soldering xlr cables

can i cut my xlr cable and then re solder it together somehow easily without quality loss? I need to do this to send it through my boom pole. Any help would be appreciated

Sure.

But I'd desolder it at the plug, not cut the cable and resolder it.

Assuming the plugs on your cable have accessible contacts.

Oh. Why at the plug? You won't be cutting through shielding (if any) and it will look neater.

GenJerDan is right. Do it at the plug to avoid any problems. Most XLR plugs are in 2 parts that unscrew to allow access to the contacts. Don't just wank the cable off the pins, but heat up the solder with a soldering gun that is holding them until you can just lift off the wires from the connectors. Clean up the old solder before re-soldering the connections.
