Software For Transcribing Interviews

Hi all.

Can anyone recommend any software out there that works decently for transcribing the audio from interviews? Just trying to speed up my workflow and expedite the transcriptions so I can work with a paper edit as well. Thanks!

If you mean software that actually does the transcribing, I believe Premiere CS4 has that feature.

I use InqScribe for my transcribing - but that is done the old fashioned way - make a file, listen to it, type away.

You could take a look at either "Dragon Naturally Speaking" or "MacSpeech." Both are speech recognition software. Dragon only works with Windows and at this point in time, I feel that it is more advanced than MacSpeech. I have heard that people have used dragon to type up recorded class lectures. Now, having used Dragon, I know that it has to be trained to understand the nuances of one's voice so accuracy may be somewhat compromised. I would contact the company and see what they have to say. If the quality of your sound is good, it might not work too bad. You may need to go through it and make some corrections but I would think that it would be far faster to do that, than to transcribe the entire interview. Again, I would give the company a call.
