someone had a post that said 80% software discounts, it really wasnt 80 percent but it was quite a bit and the site was pretty cool. im new to this sight and i cant find that post again... and i tried searching.. it was called 80% or something like that but yes please someone help me

Most of those things are scams... if you do a google search you can find places that sell "software backups" which I think most people realize are illegal copies.

Ebay has a mix of software prices tied to their legitimacy... but the bottom line is that you'll probably have to do some google or pricewatch searching. I've found some tiny little outlets that sell SOME software at academic prices... but it varies on who sells what and for how much from store to store. In my experience nobody has the best prices across the board.

What Matt said it true, with the exception that a lot of software companies offer educational discounts. There are two important issues to look at when ordering educational software: 1. is it a full version that has an educational license associated with it or is it a trimmed down piece of software? 2. What are the user guidelines associated with the software (some educational licenses, like Particle Illusion prohibit you from using the software for commercial projects).

These are the most important issues to research with educational products. There are a ton of educational software sites available, though. I know that Vegas for example is available in a full version, exactly the same as the retail version, but with the educational version you save about 50%. The benefit of this is that you get the software and can use it for commercial projects. In order to qualify for these discounts you either need to: 1. be enrolled at a university/college 2. work for a university/college 3. be teaching at a university/college.

Some companies only offer the educational discounts by ordering direct from them, in which case you will need to provide a PO from your organization.

I work for a University so I have a lot of experience ordering this stuff, and the one thing I have learned is that if you contact the customer support accounts, explain your situation normally they will be upfront and honest with you about whether a full retail version or educational version is best for you. Good luck and happy hunting!
